New to Grow
Hello there! My name is Timothy Dunn, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor based in Central New Jersey. I have been working in the mental health field since 2016, beginning in inpatient treatment, followed by several years as a case manager supporting adults with severe mental illness, and currently practicing in an outpatient setting since 2022. I serve a diverse population across age, gender, and mental health concerns, with a focus on treating anxiety, depression, trauma, abuse and neglect, and adolescents. I am looking to work with individuals who are ready to “enter the room” and “do the work,” moving at a pace that feels right for you. I’m also a husband, father, and proud dog dad who hopes to help heal the world one person at a time.
This may seem very scary and frightening but I promise we will take things slow and I want to get to know the whole you from the start, while we work on the presenting problem(s). I'm hear to hear your story and help you make progress wherever you set your destination towards. Consider me your GPS- I'll route you in some great directions but you are the one behind the wheel.
I am a great empathetic listener who enjoys hearing the whole story that compiles the client. I am client centered as in we will discuss and process whatever you feel will help but I will help provide feedback centered around the goals we help make together. I always rock your "jersey" and am on your team rooting you on with whatever goals you and I find beneficial.
I love working with people struggling with mental ailments such as anxiety or depression or even stronger needs such as trauma or those going through difficult transitions. I love people who are eager to begin the work and show up prepared to process what happened and their emotional connection to it. I have served the trauma population well including those who are survivors of domestic/emotional/physical violence.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I am a cognitive behavioral therapist by trade because I wanted to find out "why do we do x?" The link between our thoughts, behaviors, and emotions all tie together and understanding the triad helps heal the person through behavioral adjustments or emotional processing.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
Focusing on the four made modalities in DBT which are mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness can help treat intense & overwhelming emotions
Child Parent Psychotherapy
Providing dual individual and family therapy in order to build a better relationship at home while also understanding the expectations and boundaries of both parties.
