Hi, I'm Monica! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and have been involved in social work for eight years. Most of my career has been helping children, parents, and families in child welfare. Perhaps you know exactly what issue is popping up for you, but you might not! I am here to help you become more self-aware, build self-esteem, and bridge the gap between unwelcomed behaviors and the thoughts leading there. I am keen at picking up on patterns and relaying them back to you, which you may or may not have been aware of. I do not have a one-size-fits-all approach to therapy. Also, while I'm able to meet you where you're at in life, I believe that you're coming to therapy for a reason, which is typically to grow in an area of your life. I may push you to think about your growth, which can be new and uncomfortable. I am always seeking to understand and hear you; I do not judge or make assumptions about you. ** I have additional availability, please reach out to me to see if we can match a good time. **

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session, we'll start with introductions, but also identify problem areas to focus on. We will spend many sessions talking about your background, including childhood, family dynamics, past relationships, and current situation.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I am a strong listener and incorporate realism and humor into our work.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I like working with all adults, especially new parents and couples, who notice problems that arise in every day life. Ideally, I like when clients come to me and are ready to hear new ideas about their thoughts and behaviors and are ready to make change.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use CBT to identify the thoughts before behaviors and break issues down into smaller parts, so that hopefully they can be addressed and changed. Often we have "thinking errors," also called thought distortions, that can shape our perspective in how we see the world. If we notice these errors/distortions, we can change the way we feel and act.

Eclectic

I draw from many different therapeutic methods so that we're not cornered into one specific modality that might not work for you. I draw from cognitive-behavioral processes, childhood experiences, feminist perspectives, and internal family systems (parts work).

Strength-Based

I am always listening and highlighting your already-existing strengths, and truly there are SO many. We build on your strengths to make you more self-aware of how you're able to identify and solve issues beyond my care.

Family Therapy

I meet with families as a unit to discuss ongoing issues between members, especially blended families with step-parents, grandparents, and members of differing cultures/backgrounds.

Narrative

We talk through experiences in the past and present from the beginning to end to determine patterns in thinking. Often times, many issues we face in our lives are more similarly linked to ourselves than we think. Working through experiences in a narrative way leads to creating goals in our work together.
