Chinelo Okpalobi is a Licensed Mental Health Therapist with over 11 years of experience working with children, adolescents, adults, couples and families. Let's celebrate this first win of many; deciding to embark on your therapy journey. I'm here to be your teammate, but most importantly, your accountability partner. I take a client-centered, collaborative approach to therapy, tailoring each session to your unique needs and goals.

As we build our rapport through communication, I may adapt my approach to effectively deal with the present situation.

There isn't a manual on how to start; once you feel ready, I'm here to guide you through conversation. I’m here to provide a safe and supportive environment where you can be yourself and learn more about yourself.

First session

As a therapist, I believe it's important to be assertive, empathetic, and maintain an active listening style to build trust and rapport. I communicate through non-judgmental language, open-ended questions, reflection, validation of feelings, and respecting boundaries. I believe being an effective leader is equally important as being an effective teammate. Together, we will identify and create goals that allow you to lead your life most effectively and healthily. My goal is for clients to leave each session with a better understanding, feeling the need to explore more avenues about themselves, while connecting the dots through their own healing process and self-discovery.

Strengths

I utilize various theoretical frameworks, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Psychodynamic, Mindfulness, Gottman method, Gestalt, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, and CBT( Trauma-focused). I believe growth and change can begin when you become aware of inaccurate or negative thinking. Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) focuses on identifying and changing negative, unhelpful thought patterns, emotions, and behaviors. CBT empowers individuals to take an active role in creating goals and tracking their progress independently. As we build our rapport through communication, I may adapt my approach to effectively deal with the present situation. Your goals and progress are my primary focus. Together, we’ll identify challenges and work on strategies to help you move forward with confidence.

Ideal clients

I specialize in helping adults reduce anxiety, depression, navigate trauma, increase self-awareness, explore individualism, decrease stress, manage negative emotions, explore past relationships and experiences as they relate to your present relationships, decisions, and cognitive schema. I’ll work with you on creating a growth plan that feels empowering and achievable.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

Cultivating mindfulness through practices like meditation, cognitive restructuring and evidenced- based interventions. I utilize this effective method, to help individuals recognize and modify unhelpful thought patterns, increase self-compassion and develop a present-focused and accepting mindset.

Psychodynamic

Psychodynamic therapy focuses on helping individuals explore early experiences, recurring patterns, unconscious thoughts, past experiences, and buried emotions to help people understand their current behavior and relationships. It brings hidden fears, desires, and memories into conscious awareness so you can reprocess them. It also examines how early childhood and past relationships shape your present reactions and coping styles.

Chinelo gives me the space to talk without being judged. I spend most of my time listening to my friends and family without judging them, which makes it hard for me to share my emotions. I seem to carry the weight of the world on my shoulders, and Chinelo helps lighten my load.

When I first came across her profile, something stood out to me, and now I understand why. She is warm, understanding, open-minded, honest, and considerate. She challenges me to think differently and, most importantly, to look at myself and ask what I can do better. After each session, I find myself reflecting and recognizing things I need to work on. I appreciate that she doesn’t just listen—she helps me grow and become a better version of myself.
