I'm Dr. Maude Guilmette, a clinical, sports, and business psychologist and the founder of FloState Psychology. I work with people navigating the hard parts of everyday life — stress, burnout, self-doubt, the moments when your mind feels like it's working against you — as well as athletes and professionals performing under pressure.

I work with people navigating the hard parts of everyday life — stress, burnout, self-doubt, the moments when your mind feels like it's working against you — as well as athletes and professionals performing under pressure.

My approach is warm, practical, and grounded in neuroscience: understanding what's happening in your brain and body, and building small, steady tools that actually help on a hard day.

First session

In a first session, clients mostly get space to breathe and be heard. We'll talk about what's bringing you in, what life looks like right now, and what you'd like to feel different. There's no test to pass and no pressure to have it all figured out; if you're new to therapy, I'll explain how I work as we go. By the end, you'll usually leave with a clearer picture of what's going on beneath the surface, a sense of whether we're a good fit, and at least one small, practical thing to try — plus a plan for what we'd focus on next, if you choose to continue.

Strengths

I studied what helps people feel content, accomplished, and live a balanced life during periods of transition and adjustment. My methods aim to implement these findings to help improve people’s sense of well being by helping individuals foster personal agency, positive self-esteem, and meaningful connections with others. Focusing on the things people do best to help them go through emotional discomfort and make additional gains, this approach can help you perform better emotionally, socially, professionally and/or athletically, depending on your goals.

Ideal clients

My ideal client is someone who knows something needs to shift, even if they can't quite name it yet. They're often capable, caring people — the ones everyone else leans on — who are quietly running on empty, second-guessing themselves, or feeling stuck in patterns they can't seem to break. They're open, curious, and willing to look honestly at what's happening in their mind and body, and they want more than just venting: they want understanding, practical tools, and real change. Whether they're an athlete chasing performance, a professional under pressure, or simply someone trying to feel steadier in everyday life, what they share is a readiness to do the work — and a belief, even a small one, that things can feel better.

Origin story

I've always been fascinated by what happens in the mind when it matters most — why some people freeze or spiral under pressure while others find their footing. I wanted to do work that sits right at that intersection of mind and body, where small, concrete shifts can change how someone performs, copes, and lives. Helping people find that steadier version of themselves, especially when life is demanding a lot of them, is what keeps me in this work.

Ongoing work together

Ongoing work together is steady and collaborative, not a mystery. We'll meet regularly and build on what we learn about your patterns — how your mind and body respond under stress, and what actually helps you come back to steady. Between sessions, you'll have small, practical things to try in real life, and we'll look honestly at what's working and what isn't. You'll know you're making progress not by feeling perfect, but by noticing the shifts: reacting a little less quickly, replaying things a little less, recovering a little faster, and making choices that feel more like your own. Over time, the goal is for you to need me less — to carry those tools with you and trust yourself to use them.

Treatment methods

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

I use ACT to help clients stop wrestling with difficult thoughts and start living by what matters to them. Instead of trying to eliminate anxiety or self-doubt, we practice noticing those thoughts without letting them run the show — and making choices guided by values, not fear.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use CBT to untangle the loop between thoughts, feelings, and actions. Together we spot the patterns that keep you stuck — like assuming the worst or replaying every mistake — and test out steadier, more accurate ways of thinking that actually change how you feel and act.

Humanistic

I use a humanistic approach as the foundation of everything: you are the expert on your own experience, and my job is to meet you with warmth, honesty, and no judgment. Growth happens fastest in a space where you feel genuinely seen and safe to be yourself.

Positive Psychology

I use positive psychology to build what's strong, not just fix what's wrong. We pay attention to strengths, good moments, and what already works in your life, and deliberately grow those — because resilience comes from having more to draw on, not just fewer problems.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

I use mindfulness in small, practical doses — not hour-long meditations, but brief moments of noticing what's happening right now without getting swept away by it. It trains the pause between trigger and reaction, which is where steadier choices become possible.
