Dr. Kyana Hall-Toney, DMFT, LMFT, is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a doctorate in Marriage and Family Therapy. She is a compassionate, dedicated, and client-centered clinician who believes that every individual has a unique story, life experience, and purpose that contribute to who they are and who they aspire to become. Throughout her clinical career, Dr. Kyana has gained experience working with diverse populations, including individuals and families impacted by domestic violence, substance use disorders, and adolescents involved in diversion programs. She has also worked with families within Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) treatment settings and has provided individual, couples, and family therapy in a private practice setting. Her clinical experience has allowed her to develop an understanding of the complex relationships between individual experiences, family dynamics, interpersonal relationships, and environmental influences.

She recognizes that our personal experiences, relationships, family histories, and life circumstances often influence the way we view ourselves, navigate relationships, and respond to challenges.

Dr. Kyana’s therapeutic approach is grounded in Family Systems, Person-Centered, Narrative, and Solution-Focused therapies. She recognizes that our personal experiences, relationships, family histories, and life circumstances often influence the way we view ourselves, navigate relationships, and respond to challenges. Rather than defining individuals by their past experiences or present circumstances, she believes in recognizing their strengths, resilience, and capacity for change. Her approach to therapy emphasizes creating a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel heard, understood, and empowered to explore their experiences. She collaborates with clients to identify their needs, establish meaningful goals, develop healthy coping strategies, strengthen relationships, and create positive changes. Dr. Kyana believes that healing is not a one-size-fits-all journey. Each person’s path to growth looks different, and therapy provides an opportunity to gain insight, rewrite personal narratives, strengthen connections, and discover new possibilities. Her goal is to walk alongside clients as they navigate life’s challenges and work toward healing, self-discovery, personal growth, and lasting success.

First session

In your first session with me, my hope is that you feel supported, welcomed, and comfortable enough to begin exploring the concerns and experiences that have brought you to therapy. I strive to create a safe, compassionate, and nonjudgmental environment where you can openly share your story and feel heard and understood. Our initial sessions will include a biopsychosocial assessment to help me gain a better understanding of your personal history, family dynamics, relationships, life experiences, and current circumstances. We will also explore what brings you to therapy, identify your presenting concerns, and discuss the goals you hope to accomplish throughout our work together. I believe therapy is a collaborative journey, and there is no expectation that you have everything figured out before walking through the door. My goal is to meet you where you are, help you gain insight into your experiences, and support you as you begin navigating difficult emotions, addressing challenges, and exploring opportunities for personal growth and healing. Together, we will work toward developing a greater understanding of yourself, recognizing your strengths, and identifying meaningful steps toward positive change.

Strengths

I believe one of my greatest strengths as a therapist is my ability to connect with people while recognizing that everyone has a different story and experiences that have shaped who they are. I bring empathy, compassion, curiosity, and an open-minded approach to my sessions. I am intentional about creating a safe space where clients feel comfortable being vulnerable, exploring difficult experiences, and having conversations they may not have felt comfortable having elsewhere. I also bring a strong understanding of relationships and family dynamics, recognizing how our connections with others can influence our emotional well-being and personal development. I strive to help clients identify their strengths, recognize unhealthy patterns, develop insight, and discover opportunities for meaningful change.

Ideal clients

My ideal clients are individuals, couples, and families who are seeking greater self-awareness, emotional wellness, and healthier relationships. I enjoy working with people who are interested in exploring how their life experiences, family histories, and interpersonal relationships have shaped their current perspectives and behaviors. I am particularly passionate about helping clients navigate life transitions, relationship challenges, family dynamics, and unresolved experiences that may be impacting their present lives. I believe therapy is not exclusively for individuals who are struggling; it is also for those who want to grow, gain perspective, strengthen relationships, and become more intentional about the lives they are creating.

Origin story

My inspiration for becoming a therapist was deeply rooted in my own family experiences and the recognition of how therapy could have been a valuable source of support, healing, and understanding. Witnessing the complexities of family relationships helped me develop a genuine appreciation for the importance of emotional connection, communication, and feeling understood. It also inspired me to create a space where individuals and families could feel heard, supported, and empowered to navigate their own experiences. I have always been fascinated by relationships and the profound impact they have on our emotional, psychological, and even physical well-being. Our relationships often influence how we see ourselves, how we connect with others, how we respond to life’s challenges, and ultimately, the paths we take toward achieving our goals. I believe that our family histories, childhood experiences, and interpersonal connections contribute to the narratives we develop about ourselves and the world around us. My passion for therapy comes from recognizing that healing is not simply about addressing challenges; it is also about understanding ourselves, strengthening relationships, breaking unhealthy patterns, and discovering the ability to create meaningful change. I value the opportunity to walk alongside individuals, couples, and families as they explore their experiences, recognize their strengths, and develop healthier ways of relating to themselves and others.

Ongoing work together

Future sessions will focus on identifying and implementing individualized, evidence-informed therapeutic interventions that align with your identified needs and treatment goals. Together, we will work toward addressing presenting concerns, strengthening coping skills, developing greater self-awareness, and fostering meaningful, sustainable changes that support your emotional well-being and personal growth.

Treatment methods

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

I incorporate Emotionally Focused Therapy into my sessions by helping clients move beyond describing their problems and begin understanding the emotions, attachment needs, and relationship patterns underneath those problems.

Person-centered (Rogerian)

I utilize Person-Centered Therapy in almost every session with individuals, couples, and families. The goal is to create an environment where clients feel safe enough to explore their experiences, develop self-awareness, and identify their own capacity for change.

Narrative

I utilize Narrative Therapy to help clients explore the stories they have developed about themselves, understand how those stories influence their present behaviors and relationships, and begin creating alternative narratives that reflect their strengths, resilience, and potential.
