My name is Harvey I have over 20 years' experience with mental health and with the substance abuse populations.

These are the two i utilize the most to assist individuals with developing necessary skills so they can effectively address any issues they are considering to be a challenge in their life.

First session

I tend to utilize Motivational interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to assist individuals with developing necessary skills so they can effectively address any issues they are considering to be a challenge in their life. In the first session we will take the time to discuss what brought you in to treatment. Then we will develop Measurable goals for you to obtain to meet your counseling needs

Strengths

I believe that everyone can change and grow at any time in their life, all they need to have is the proper motivation and support. I do believe some issues are formulated from the family of origin and it is important to identify those issues which often play a part in dysfunctional relationships. Which means that I think you can unlearn the faulty behaviors and replace them with healthy ones. Just a little information about myself. I am currently in recovery with 29 years clean. I also have had my own struggles with anxiety and depression. Through my own therapy, I was able to develop skills to cope with my emotions. Also, I attend 12 step groups to further maintain my recovery support. I am very open minded individual who will always do what is best for the individuals I serve. One thing I always say is, “ If I short change you, then I short change me”. If you have any more questions about me, please reach out for a 15 minute consultation.

Ideal clients

Clients who like homework and doing work in between sessions. Clients who are prepared to have tough conversations and are able to accept honest feedback in a loving caring way. I am also in position to serve people who are navigating major life transitions, whether in career growth, caregiving responsibilities, or experiencing depression. My ideal client is a individual who is ready to embark on life change and developing skills to change their quality of life

Origin story

My journey to becoming a mental health and substance abuse therapist is deeply personal and rooted in my own experience, growth, and desire to help others. With 29 years of being clean from drugs, I understand firsthand the challenges of addiction, recovery, and the courage it takes to make a lasting change. My own recovery showed me that healing is possible and that people can rebuild their lives when they have support, guidance, and someone who believes in them. For more than 20 years, I have worked in the helping field, supporting individuals through some of the most difficult moments of their lives. These experiences have strengthened my passion for helping others find hope, recognize their own strengths, and work toward meaningful change. Becoming a therapist has allowed me to combine my personal journey with my professional experience and provide compassionate, nonjudgmental support to those struggling with mental health and substance use. My purpose is to remind others that their past does not have to define their future and that recovery, growth, and a fulfilling life are possible

Ongoing work together

Our work together will build from session to session, with each meeting focusing on gaining insight, learning practical coping skills, and applying those skills to real-life situations. We will regularly review what is working, what remains challenging, and adjust treatment as needed. Clients will know they are making progress when they begin to better understand their emotions and triggers, respond to difficult situations in healthier ways, communicate more effectively, and feel more confident using the tools learned in therapy on their own.

Treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have a lot of experience teaching and supporting clients work through negative thought patterns and helping them find positive strategies to change their thoughts to more positive healthier thoughts. With this therapy modality I have therapy resources and can provide practical strategies to help clients put them to use in an easy but convenient way to help them achieve the goals they desire.

My regular doctor recommended I should see a counselor. Which I have no problem with. From my first meeting, Darren came across as very sincere and very knowledgeable. I’m sure that he will help my situation greatly.
