Karlee Strahorn
Hello, my name is Karlee Strahorn. I want to welcome and thank you for taking this step toward your well-being. My priority is to create a judgment-free space where you can speak openly.
Telehealth makes it possible for us to meet in a way that’s flexible and private, and I’ll be here to guide you through each stage of your journey.
Telehealth makes it possible for us to meet in a way that’s flexible and private, and I’ll be here to guide you through each stage of your journey.
First session
The first session will include introductions and getting settled in. I will then review confidentiality and privacy. At this time any safety concerns will also be addressed. From there, the conversation usually turns to your current concerns: what’s going on, when it started, and how it’s been affecting your daily life, whether that’s your work, sleep, relationships, or general sense of wellbeing.
Strengths
I am an LCSW with 8 years of experience working with both children and adults. I am also a fulltime crisis counselor and mandated prescreen for the state of Virginia. I specialize in trauma-informed care and a multitude of evidenced based practices such as CBT, DBT, and motivational interviewing. I believe in meeting the client where they are. Therefore, each individual will experience a different treatment whether that is providing a quite pause and a safe space or a gentle nudge.
Ideal clients
My ideal client is anyone who has an open mind and wants treatment. My crisis experiences have allowed me to work with all age groups and those experiencing all different issues therefore I am comfortable with all genders, ethnicities, and ages. I will provide a non-judgmental, safe, and comfortable space for individuals to share their concerns, fears, and work on goals.
Origin story
"I became a therapist because I believe everyone deserves a safe space to be heard and understood. My inspiration came from navigating life's challenges having family members who have mental health diagnoses. I saw firsthand how compassionate guidance can transform someone’s outlook, and I wanted to offer that same support to others. Telehealth lets me extend that safe space to clients across different locations, meeting them where they are."
Ongoing work together
Later sessions generally build on what you covered in your first one, with a more specific focus on your goals and treatment approach. Therapy tends to develop gradually rather than getting resolved in a single appointment, and that’s by design, not a shortcoming of the process.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
In treatment session we will identify how thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are interconnected. Once identified we can recognize how these unhelpful thought processes are causing distress. We will then learn how to reframe those thoughts replacing distorted thinking with more balanced, realistic ways of responding.
