Jennifer Guarino
Life presents many challenges and sometimes those challenges require that we have assistance along the way. I partner with my clients on their journey toward wellness; in mind, body, and spirit. I provide compassionate care in the treatment of depression, anxiety, PTSD, trauma, grief, grief group support, and stress-related problems.
Life presents many challenges and sometimes those challenges require that we have assistance along the way.
My practice welcomes first responders; people of all backgrounds; and those seeking a professional environment in which they can work toward healing and wellness.
First session
It is my hope when clients leave their first session that they are proud of their bravery, that they find some relief in knowing that they have support in their upcoming journey and that they feel validated and safe in the space that I provided as a clinician but most importantly as a human.
Strengths
I, like all humans, have experienced both triumph and tragedy in life. I offer a therapeutic environment filled with honor, respectful challenging when appropriate, and humor. I can hold space with my clients with reverence, believing that all of us have the capacity to be agents of our own change.
Ideal clients
My ideal client is someone who is willing to recognize the courage it took to schedule the first appointment. Its an accomplishment to take that first step. I hope that the client has a willingness to grow and heal and realizes that they are the agent for their change, with therapeutic help along the journey! I expect that my clients will notice an improvement in their mood state; have learned and continue to use effective coping strategies and experience a reduction in what ails them.
Origin story
My little brother, and my only sibling, had a heart defect. I grew up as a child in pediatric ICU waiting rooms whenever he had complications or surgeries... and I observed. I observed families from all different backgrounds experiencing fear, grief, joy, relief, sadness, gratitude and anger. Many of these people didn't speak the same "verbal" languages as others in the room, but everyone spoke with language of emotion and care and love and hope.
Ongoing work together
Ongoing work together will include clinical perspectives and interventions but more importantly the client experiencing a better understanding of their needs; mind, body and spirit and to reconcile how to live a meaningful life.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Learn to recognize and challenge distorted thinking and behavioral patterns and learn new, more effective ways of engaging in the world for both the self and with others.
Motivational Interviewing
I meet the client where they are "at" in beliefs, perspectives, behaviors and then we as a team identify where they want to go, what goals they want to achieve, what they want their life, interactions, mood(s) etc. to look like/be like so that we can work toward those changes.
Solution-Focused Brief Treatment
Solution Focused Brief treatment we identify the concern/issue/problem and identify and implement solutions to create positive change.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
I utilize a person-centered approach in my grief work as I truly believe in the power of connection and understanding, most especially during some of the most painful experiences in a persons life.
