Karely Gutierrez
I am a born and bred L.A native. Born into a family where there was so much intergenerational patterns that were passed down. As I placed my faith in God and I allowed him to heal me and show me my true identity in him I was able to experience life changing breakthrough. My hope is to help anyone who is seeking to incorporate faith, regardless of where you are in your walk with God (committed or questioning). God met me at my lowest, showed me his love and compassion that truly changed me for the better. I hope to show others how God is the ultimate healer of the mind, body, soul and spirit. Healing is an ongoing process and it takes daily renewing of the mind.
First session
What can you expect in our first session? I like to hold space for us to connect, learn about one another, dig into what are some goals or hopes you have for therapy. This session is an opportunity for you to ask any and all questions you have about therapy. I will also provide some direction to potential approaches for treatment and what to expect in our work together.
Strengths
There is no one size fits all, and I seek to learn what are the things that you are passionate about, what is helpful to you, how does your faith play a role in your life ? I like to invite folks to be open and curious. To engage in conversations and activities you may have not considered and dig deep within yourself to the strengths you already possess. Think of our work as a collaborative approach. Together we find the materials to build your unique "bridge" that helps you move through the unexpected or challenging experiences of life.
Ideal clients
My ideal client is someone who understands that there are things internally that need to shift or change. This client though may be guarded is willing to start making small steps in examining their heart, mind, body and soul. They are open to interventions and approaches and also able to share their feedback about these approaches. This client is honest about where they are at during every session and is not striving to do things for the sake of the therapist (to not look bad) or to be dishonest for fear of "looking bad".
Treatment methods
Faith-based therapy
God provided us a blue print for healing as a whole through his word and his presence. Incorporating faith based exploration, seeking understanding of his word, and activities about faith will help with a deeper form of healing that includes the mind, body, and spirit. While exploring the importance of faith, we will also include other modalities of therapeutic approaches that will be intertwined with Gods written word such as : renewing of the mind through cognitive behavioral therapy , healing the soul through trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy , learning to be present in the now and using coping skills through exploring dialectical behavioral therapy. The approaches and creativity to do this are endless!
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
The renewing of our mind and recoding our thought processes and experiences is a critical component to rewiring how our body, mind, soul, and spirit. How we experience what we perceive informs how we react to the outer world and our inner world/self. Our bodies will either react in fight, flight, freeze, or safety based on how we encode what we see, hear, and feel. We will explore what thought processes are held and why (e.g.,childhood experiences, trauma, attachments) and whether they are helpful or unhelpful. We will learn to identify patterns and rewire them to make us resilient, adaptable, capable, and rooted in the ultimate truth.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
People often believe that a sign of healing means having no emotions. However the goal isn't to do away with our emotions, it is to authentically name them and responsibly experience them. Mastering the ability to do this depends upon your capacity to engage your emotional mind and your logical mind together to reach your wise mind. DBT therapy focuses on different coping skills that reduces stress allowing you to process how you feel as opposed to reacting.
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
Since birth every experience we have taken in has had a role in shaping who we are and our perceptions. When we avoid how certain experiences made us feel, or we think of them as just factual moments, we may lose sight of why we have certain wounds, expectations, behaviors, or perceptions. By using EFT interventions we will dig deeper sitting with the experiences, naming the emotions and the roots attached to them. Together we will forge pathways to healing, rewiring, and lasting hope.
