Clarese Kirshen
Hi there, welcome. It is wonderful to see you are taking the first step to connect with a therapist. My style is casual and client centered. Clients set their own goals as I support them in feeling heard, safe and an equal part of the therapy process. Our focus would be to identify areas of difficulty, build on the strengths you already have, identify triggers and learn coping strategies to help ease symptoms that may be impacting day to day life. I believe in the importance of meeting people where they are and providing non judgmental, open connections. My clients are adult women who identify with one or more of the following: family conflict, estrangement, caregiver, grief, aging, hospice, anxiety, caring for neurodivergent children, parenting and/or chronic medical illness.
First session
Our first session will be spent getting to know one another. I welcome questions and feedback on goals, session structure and discussion around what is most important for me to know starting off.
Strengths
My sessions are very much client driven. Each session looks different depending on the needs and topics brought to session.
Ideal clients
I typically work with adult men and women who identify with experiencing one or more of the following: family conflict, parenting a neurodivergent child, parent or family estrangement, caregiver to family member with a chronic illness/terminal illness, grief, aging, anxiety and/or their own chronic illness. I also offer couples counseling and family counseling. At this time I only offer telehealth sessions.
Origin story
Everyone has a story and is deserving of non judgmental support. I have always enjoyed helping people and animals when they are experiencing something difficult. It is incredible being invited into vulnerable conversation. Having the ability to help even in the smallest way is such a gift.
Ongoing work together
My clients a very much the leader in session. I allow room for structure and free flowing dialogue. We will work together each session to check in on how you feel progress is going, any feedback for me and if there is anything you'd like to add or improve upon.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Noticing thoughts, patterns of thoughts and challenging them with a reframe to a more positive interpretation.
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
Rather than avoiding or striving for the idea of perfection, what if we strive to accept how we feel?
Psychodynamic
Lets try to get a bit deeper. Where might your feelings be coming from? What are your triggers? What might your triggers be a response to?
Mindfulness-Based Therapy
Let's try practice being present in the moment. Practice is the key word. What do you notice? What do you hear? Where are you feeling that intense feeling in your body?
