Lynnette Pina
Hi, I’m Lynnette Piña, the owner of Creative Waves Therapy and a Licensed Professional Counselor with over 10 years of experience working in the mental health field. I know that reaching out for therapy can feel intimidating (and honestly, even figuring out where to start can feel like a lot), so my goal is to make that first step feel a little less overwhelming. I believe therapy should be a space where you can show up as your full self, no judgment, no need to have the “perfect” words, and no pretending that everything is fine when it isn’t. Sometimes life can feel heavy, and it can be difficult to know how to move forward. Whether you’re carrying painful experiences, navigating relationships, or trying to understand yourself in a deeper way, you don’t have to do it alone. My goal is to create a space where you feel seen, heard, and supported as you begin your healing journey.
My commitment is to provide a supportive and safe counseling environment where individuals can ride the waves of creativity to gain personal insights, that help them work towards their goals.
First session
Before we meet, I’ll send you a few forms to complete through email, including consent forms and some information that will help me better understand what brings you to therapy and how I can best support you. Our first session will be a time for us to get to know each other, talk about what you’ve been experiencing, and explore what you hope to work toward in therapy. We’ll discuss your history, current challenges, and goals so we can create a treatment plan that is personalized to your needs and supports your healing journey.
Strengths
I specialize in trauma-focused therapy using Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to help you process painful experiences that may still feel stuck or impact your life today. I’m passionate about walking alongside you as you reclaim your story, build resilience, and move toward feeling more connected, hopeful, and at peace.
Ideal clients
If you've spent so much of your life taking care of everyone else that you've forgotten how to care for yourself, you're in the right place. Maybe you've experienced trauma, struggle with anxiety, or find yourself stuck in the same relationship patterns no matter how hard you try to change them. On the outside, you might look like you have it all together, but inside you're exhausted, overwhelmed, or wondering why it feels so hard to simply be at peace. You don't have to have the right words or have everything figured out before starting therapy. You just need a place where you can show up exactly as you are. My hope is to help you understand yourself with compassion instead of criticism, process the experiences that continue to affect you, and reconnect with the version of yourself that has been buried beneath survival. Together, we'll work toward helping you feel more grounded, more connected, and more like yourself again, because healing isn't about becoming someone new. It's about coming home to who you've always been.
Treatment methods
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
DBT emphasizes skill-building in four key areas: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. I teach these skills to clients through structured sessions, worksheets, role-plays, and exercises. This helps clients develop effective strategies to manage their emotions, navigate relationships, and cope with crises.
EMDR
By using EMDR, I aim to help clients alleviate distress associated with traumatic memories, improve their emotional regulation, and promote psychological resilience. EMDR can be a transformative approach for clients seeking relief from the impact of past trauma and improving their overall quality of life.
