Hi, I'm Brittany, a Licensed Professional Counselor working with children, teens, and adults throughout Michigan. I believe there's comfort in telling your story. My approach to therapy is collaborative, curious, and creative, blending meaningful conversation with evidence-based practices and experiential approaches. I work to create an environment where clients feel comfortable exploring their experiences, making connections, and developing a deeper understanding of themselves.

First session

The first session is really about getting to know each other. I'll want to hear what's been going on in your life, what brought you to therapy, and what you're hoping might be different moving forward. We'll talk through some background, discuss any questions or concerns you have, and start identifying what you'd like to work on. I know opening up to someone new can feel uncomfortable, so we'll go at a pace that makes sense for you. My goal is for you to leave with a better sense of what therapy with me looks like, a direction for where we can start, and hopefully some reassurance that you don't have to figure everything out on your own.

Strengths

I bring curiosity, empathy, creativity, and a genuine interest in understanding each person I work with. My approach is collaborative and flexible, combining evidence-based techniques with deeper exploration of emotions, experiences, and patterns that may be difficult to recognize on your own. I believe there's value in both feeling heard and being challenged, and I try to find that balance based on what each client needs. I'm especially passionate about helping people connect with hard-to-reach emotions, strengthen self-awareness, and develop practical coping skills they can use outside of our sessions.

Ideal clients

Life is hard, but I believe getting help shouldn't have to be. I enjoy working with people across different stages of life, from adolescence through adulthood, who are navigating whatever challenges life has thrown their way. Whether you're struggling with anxiety, relationships, difficult emotions, major transitions, or simply need a place to talk and make sense of things, there's room for that in therapy. I don't believe you need to have everything figured out before getting started. What matters most is a willingness to show up, be open to the process, and do the work together. I'll meet you where you are, and we'll figure out where to go from there.

Origin story

My own life experiences are a big part of what drew me to this profession. I've come to recognize how much of a difference it can make to have someone to talk to, along with the tools to better understand ourselves and navigate life's challenges. I've always believed that learning to recognize and connect with our emotions, develop healthy coping skills, and build greater self-awareness are things we should be taught early in life. We all face difficult experiences, and I find a lot of meaning in helping people better understand themselves, work through what they're feeling, and develop skills they can carry with them long after therapy ends.

Ongoing work together

I don't believe therapy should look the same for everyone, and I don't think progress always follows a straight line. Our work together will be shaped by your experiences, your goals, and what you need along the way. Some sessions might involve exploring past experiences, relationships, or emotions that have been difficult to understand. Others might be more focused on developing coping skills, working through a current challenge, or trying something new. We'll regularly check in on what's helping and what might need to change. Over time, I hope you'll start noticing the difference outside of our sessions—in how you understand yourself, manage difficult emotions, approach relationships, and respond to life's challenges. The goal is for what we work on together to become something you can carry into the rest of your life.

Treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients better understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Together, we explore patterns of thinking that may be contributing to anxiety, depression, self-doubt, or other challenges, and work on developing healthier ways to respond. I often incorporate practical exercises, real-life examples, and skill-building activities to make these concepts easier to understand and apply. My goal is to help you recognize patterns, challenge unhelpful thinking, and develop coping strategies that make a meaningful difference in your everyday life.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help clients develop a different relationship with difficult thoughts and emotions. Rather than getting caught up in trying to eliminate every uncomfortable feeling, we explore ways to make room for those experiences while staying connected to what matters most. This often involves identifying personal values, building psychological flexibility, and learning how to move forward even when anxiety, uncertainty, or self-doubt shows up. I want clients to feel more confident making choices that reflect the life they want to build.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I incorporate Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help clients develop practical skills for managing difficult emotions, navigating relationships, and responding to stressful situations. We work on recognizing emotional triggers, building distress tolerance, improving communication, and finding ways to respond rather than react. I often use real-life situations to help clients practice these skills and understand how to apply them outside of therapy. The goal is to strengthen emotional regulation, build confidence in handling challenges, and develop healthier ways of navigating everyday life.

Psychodynamic

I use psychodynamic therapy to explore how our past experiences, relationships, and emotional patterns influence the way we think, feel, and interact with the world today. Sometimes we find ourselves repeating behaviors, struggling with certain emotions, or responding to situations in ways we don't fully understand. Through conversation, reflection, and curiosity, we work to uncover those connections and develop a deeper understanding of what may be happening beneath the surface. I find this approach especially valuable for helping clients access hard-to-reach emotions, recognize longstanding patterns, and build greater self-awareness.

Integrative

I don't believe there's one approach to therapy that works for everyone. I use an integrative approach, drawing from different therapeutic methods based on each client's personality, experiences, needs, and goals. Some sessions may involve exploring deeper emotional patterns or past experiences, while others focus on practical coping skills, problem-solving, or navigating something happening right now. I also enjoy incorporating creative and experiential activities when they can help clients connect with emotions or concepts that may be difficult to express through conversation alone. My approach is flexible, collaborative, and centered on finding what works best for you. I also use a strengths-based approach to help clients recognize and build upon the qualities, abilities, and resilience they already possess. It's easy to lose sight of our strengths when we're overwhelmed, struggling with self-doubt, or focused on what isn't going well. Together, we explore what's helped you navigate challenges in the past, identify strengths you may not recognize in yourself, and find ways to apply them to your current experiences. I believe developing greater self-awareness includes recognizing what we're capable of, and I want clients to leave therapy with a stronger sense of confidence, independence, and trust in their own abilities.
