Oceana Free, a Licensed Therapist practicing in California providing therapy to adult individuals, with 25 years of experience working with trauma.
My work welcomes spirituality & faith for those who wish to bring their Christian or Catholic beliefs as a companion to the therapy process. My work is depth-oriented & integrative, drawing from psychodynamic & faith-based approaches to support meaningful, lasting change. I believe therapy works best when it is grounded in respect, dignity & compassion, honoring your values, culture & faith. I work to empower clients with intentional, individualized care- while offering space for suffering to be held & transformed.
First session
In our first session, we'll begin with a conversation about what has brought you to therapy & what you are currently struggling with, along with time for any questions you may have. This initial meeting allows us to determine whether working together feels like a good fit & to establish a direction for our work. You can expect a calm place where your experience is met with care, discernment & room to set down what you've been carrying.
Strengths
My greatest strengths are rooted in authentic empathy for those who have or currently struggle and suffer. I'm currently a licensed Marriage Family Therapist, with an M.S. in Counseling from San Francisco State University, a B.S. in Social Work from San Francisco State University, and a PhD in Metaphysical Counseling from the University of Metaphysical Sciences. With over 25 years of experience working in diverse communities, I have walked alongside people through loss, hardship & seasons that ask more of them than they expected to give. Therapy with me is direct, thoughtful & respectful of your lived experience. My faith informs the presence & hope I bring to my work with clients.
Ideal clients
I work with individuals who carry the impact of trauma, heartbreak & emotional fatigue, often while holding relationships, faith, family & responsibility together. Many of the people I work with are strong, capable & spiritual, yet feel overwhelmed, exhausted, disconnected or quietly alone. Some of the people I work with also value their Christian or Catholic faith & appreciate having a place where that part of their life can be respected and thoughtfully included in the healing process. This work is a good fit for those seeking insight & clarity & a renewed sense that healing is possible.
