Shirlee Lyons
believe therapy should be a place where you can be yourself, feel heard, and know that you don’t have to have everything figured out. With 30 years of experience, I work with children, teens, and adults facing anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, life transitions, and other challenges.
believe therapy should be a place where you can be yourself, feel heard, and know that you don’t have to have everything figured out.
Together, we’ll identify what matters most to you and develop practical strategies to help you move forward.
First session
Starting therapy can feel uncertain, so I want our first session to feel comfortable and relaxed. We’ll talk about what brings you in and complete a psychosocial assessment to better understand your history, experiences, strengths, and needs. This is also your opportunity to ask questions, get to know me, and determine whether working together feels like the right fit.
Strengths
With 30 years of experience, I bring warmth, compassion, and perspective to therapy. I enjoy helping people develop insight, recognize their strengths, and reach their potential. My approach is collaborative and individualized, providing a supportive sounding board while helping clients navigate challenges and create meaningful, lasting change.
Ideal clients
I enjoy working with people across the lifespan and from diverse backgrounds and experiences. Every person brings a unique story, perspective, and set of strengths to therapy. I value meeting clients where they are, providing a supportive sounding board, and helping them gain insight, work through challenges, recognize their abilities, and move toward the growth and change they want in their lives
Origin story
I became a therapist because I wanted to help people grow, develop insight, and achieve all they can. I value being a sounding board and source of support as clients better understand themselves, recognize their strengths, and find meaningful ways to meet the challenges they face.
Ongoing work together
Our ongoing sessions will be collaborative conversations about your experiences, challenges, successes, and goals. Together, we’ll explore patterns, develop greater insight, build on your strengths, and identify practical strategies for moving forward. We’ll also use periodic assessments to evaluate your progress and make adjustments to your goals or treatment plan when needed.
Treatment methods
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
Therapy with me is a conversation and partnership. Using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, we’ll explore your experiences, thoughts, emotions, strengths, and what matters most to you. Together, we’ll work on developing insight and finding meaningful ways to move through challenges while working toward your goals. We’ll also use assessments to monitor progress and adjust treatment goals as your needs change.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use CBT in a supportive and collaborative way, helping clients develop insight into patterns of thinking, emotions, and behaviors that may be affecting their lives. We work together to recognize strengths, challenge unhelpful thought patterns, develop healthier coping strategies, and find practical ways to navigate challenges and move toward their goals
Interpersonal
I use Interpersonal Therapy to help clients better understand the connection between their relationships and emotional well-being. Together, we explore relationship patterns, communication, conflicts, life transitions, and sources of support. I provide a supportive sounding board while helping clients develop insight, strengthen relationships, and find healthier ways to navigate interpersonal challenges.
Solution-Focused Brief Treatment
I use Solution-Focused Brief Therapy to help clients recognize their strengths, identify what is already working, and build on those successes. Together, we focus on what they would like to be different, develop achievable goals, and identify practical steps that can help them move forward and create meaningful change in their lives.
Supportive
I use Supportive Therapy to create a comfortable, nonjudgmental space where clients can talk openly and feel heard and understood. I serve as a supportive sounding board while helping clients recognize their strengths, develop insight, strengthen coping skills, work through challenges, and build confidence in their ability to move forward.
