I am a licensed clinical psychologist practicing in Michigan. I have been in the counseling field for over 20 years and enjoy working with people from all walks of life. I offer relaxation training, EMDR, active listening and hypnosis as tools the client can take with them to deal with the challenges and changes that life throws at us. I work closely with my clients to create a unique treatment plan based on their needs and wants.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session we will start with a brief introduction and then focus on what issues brought you into treatment. We will explore your understanding about what factors are causing the problem and your thoughts about what resolution would look like for you. We will review your history that is relevant to the problem. We will explore what your treatment goals are. At the end of the session, we will review the Session Rating Scale (SRS V.30) to measure your satisfaction with your first session and what things might be improved.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Over the years I have worked with many diverse populations of people from all walks of life. I welcome diversity in my practice and enjoy the privilege of learning from my clients. I am client centered and believe that each person has the capacity to grow and improve, if given the resources and environment to do so. I focus on creating an empathetic and nonjudgemental environment where it feels safe to disclose yourself.

My treatment methods

Hypnotherapy

Hypnosis is a natural state of relaxed concentration that is similar to meditation or guided imagery. Entering this relaxed focused trance state allows one to calm down the nervous system and emotional brain and access more positive thinking and emotional states. It is useful in every day life to enter a trance state to regulate one's emotional balance when stresses occur. Hypnosis uses imagination to see alternate futures and better outcomes for ones' self.

EMDR

EMDR (Eye Movement Desentization and Reprocessing) is an 8 phase therapy method designed by Francine Shapiro, Ph.D to reduce the effects of trauma so that clients can go on with their life without the burden of the distressing events effecting their mood, behavior and life choices. EMDR is also used in the treatment of depression, anxiety and panic. Bilateral stimulation is used and thought to help the brain reconsolidate and update old traumatic memories.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

People find it very helpful to become aware of their automatic, reoccurring thoughts/beliefs that impact their mood, perspective and bodily reactions. Becoming aware of negative thoughts, challenging their truthfulness and replacing them with more positive, realistic beliefs is something everyone can benefit from. EMDR is also a tool that help a person reprocess the negative belief and replace it with a more healthy belief.
