Katherine Sharp
Hi, I'm Katherine Sharp, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in Florida, Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in South Carolina and Missouri, and Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) in Ohio. I work with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, relationship challenges, stress, and self-esteem concerns.
Sometimes the struggles we face today are rooted in experiences we haven't fully understood. I help clients connect the dots between their past and present to create meaningful, lasting change.
My goal is to create a warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where you feel comfortable exploring your experiences and working toward meaningful change. I believe that therapy is most effective when it combines insight with practical tools. While learning coping strategies can help manage current challenges, I also believe that understanding your past can provide valuable insight into who you are today. Together, we may explore important life experiences, relationships, and patterns that have influenced your thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and beliefs. Developing this deeper self-awareness can help you break free from unhelpful patterns and create lasting change. My approach is collaborative and tailored to your unique needs. I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, psychodynamic therapy, and trauma-informed care. Whether you're navigating a difficult life transition, struggling with anxiety or depression, processing past experiences, or seeking a greater understanding of yourself, I strive to help you feel heard, supported, and empowered throughout the therapeutic process. I view therapy as a partnership and am committed to meeting you where you are while helping you move toward the life you want to create.
First session
Starting therapy can feel overwhelming, and it's completely normal to feel unsure about what to expect. Our first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and begin building a therapeutic relationship where you feel comfortable, supported, and understood. During our time together, we'll talk about what brought you to therapy, the challenges you're currently facing, your personal history, and what you hope to gain from the process. I'll ask questions to better understand your experiences, but there is no pressure to share everything right away. We will move at a pace that feels comfortable for you. Together, we'll begin identifying your goals and exploring the patterns, experiences, and strengths that have shaped your life. This initial session also gives you the opportunity to ask questions and determine whether I am the right fit for your needs.
Strengths
I bring curiosity, insight, and a thoughtful approach to each session. I have a strong ability to recognize patterns and help clients connect experiences, emotions, and behaviors that may not initially seem related. These connections often lead to meaningful self-awareness and a deeper understanding of the factors influencing current struggles. I am attentive to both what is being said and what may be left unsaid, helping clients explore underlying thoughts, emotions, and beliefs that can impact their relationships, decision-making, and overall well-being. I believe that increased self-awareness creates opportunities for lasting change and greater emotional freedom. I also recognize that every client is different. Some individuals benefit from exploring deeper emotional themes, while others need more structure, guidance, or skill-building. I strive to meet clients where they are and adapt sessions to their unique needs, goals, and stage of growth. My aim is to help clients gain clarity, develop a stronger understanding of themselves.
Ideal clients
My ideal client is someone who may appear to have it all together on the outside but internally feels overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, or stuck in patterns they don't fully understand. They may struggle with anxiety, self-doubt, relationship difficulties, perfectionism, or the pressure of constantly meeting everyone else's expectations while neglecting their own needs. I particularly enjoy working with individuals who are curious about themselves and want to understand the deeper reasons behind their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Maybe they've spent years putting others first, struggle to establish healthy boundaries, find themselves repeating the same relationship patterns, or feel disconnected from the person they want to become. You don't need to have everything figured out or even know exactly what you want to change. All I ask is that you come with a willingness to explore, reflect, and challenge yourself at your own pace.
Origin story
What inspired me to become a therapist was my curiosity about the human experience—why we think, feel, and behave the way we do, how our past experiences shape us, and what allows us to grow beyond the challenges we've faced. I've always been fascinated by the fact that two people can experience similar circumstances yet carry entirely different emotions, perspectives, and struggles. I was particularly drawn to the idea that so much of what people carry is invisible to those around them. Behind every behavior, reaction, or struggle, there is often a story that deserves to be understood rather than judged. I wanted to pursue a profession where I could look beyond the surface, help people make sense of their experiences, and challenge the patterns that may be keeping them stuck.
Ongoing work together
Our work together will be collaborative, genuine, and focused on helping you create meaningful change. As we build trust and gain a deeper understanding of your experiences, each session will build on the last, allowing us to identify patterns, challenge unhelpful beliefs, and develop practical strategies you can apply in everyday life. I'll offer support, honest feedback, and gentle challenges to help you grow beyond your comfort zone. Progress isn't always measured by big breakthroughs. Sometimes it's recognizing a trigger, setting a boundary without guilt, responding differently to an old pattern, or simply feeling more confident in yourself. Over time, my goal is for you to feel more emotionally grounded, trust your own judgment, and navigate life's challenges with greater clarity, resilience, and independence.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use CBT to help you better understand how your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors influence one another. Together, we'll identify patterns that may be contributing to anxiety, stress, self-doubt, or feeling stuck. My goal is to help you challenge unhelpful thinking, develop healthier coping strategies, and build practical skills you can use in everyday life. I believe meaningful change happens when you begin responding to life's challenges with greater confidence, awareness, and self-compassion.
Psychodynamic
I believe understanding where our patterns come from is an important part of creating lasting change. Through psychodynamic therapy, we'll explore how your past experiences, relationships, and emotional needs may be shaping the way you see yourself and connect with others today. Together, we'll uncover patterns that may be holding you back, deepen your self-awareness, and create space for healing. My approach is compassionate, curious, and focused on helping you better understand yourself without judgment.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
I believe you can accept yourself as you are while still working toward meaningful change. Through DBT, I help you better understand your emotions, navigate difficult moments, and build healthier relationships. My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and practical, focusing on helping you feel more in control of your responses, trust yourself, and approach life's challenges with greater confidence and self-compassion.
