I try to provide my clients with assistance on determining what their primary goals are in therapy and what problems are standing in their way. My ideal client is someone who recognizes that they want to change something in their lives that is preventing them from moving forward. Ideally, they are self-motivated (not engaging in therapy because a family member or loved one is pressuring them to change). In addition, the client is willing to work on their problems outside of the therapy session and put into practice the skills they have learned. My approach combines both empathy and practicality. While I value good rapport with a client I also want to provide them with the tools they need to better their lives.

I am a licensed clinical social worker providing individual and couples therapy for adults navigating relationship challenges, grief and loss, emotional overwhelm and major life transitions. My goal is to help clients identify patterns that keep them stuck, strengthen boundaries and build practical coping strategies that support meaningful, lasting change. My approach is structured, supportive and nonjudgmental, creating space where clients can process challenges and move toward healing and growth. For clients who wish to integrate faith into their counseling journey, I also offer Christian based counseling. In addition to my therapy work, I bring over 6 years of experience as a medical social worker, serving in hospitals, hospices and long-term care settings. This background gives me a deeper understanding of the emotional, relational and practical challenges that often come with illness, caregiving, grief and significant life transitions. I am licensed to practice in IL, NC and OH.

I became a therapist because I know what it feels like to struggle internally and question your own worth. I spent years learning how to care for the person I saw in the mirror instead of criticizing them. That journey taught me compassion, resilience, and the importance of feeling truly understood — and it’s what drives my work helping others discover their own strength and value.

The one question I get most often by clients and peers is: Why did you go into the counseling profession? My response is always the same. First, I have always had a desire to help people in a time of need or distress. I have felt this way as far back as high school. Secondly, I went through a debilitating anxiety disorder in my mid-twenties. I know first-hand the helplessness and desperation mental and emotional pain causes. I never condone a therapist sharing with a client, they know how the client feels unless they themselves have experienced a similar type of pain. Lastly, I believe in the power of counseling and the benefits it can offer. Counseling is very different from medicine. Counseling requires the client to be actively involved in the process of healing and growth rather than taking medication and waiting for it to work. Counseling empowers a client to by allowing them to see their progress towards the life they desire on a daily, weekly, and even monthly basis.

Most say that I am down to earth and relatable. Building professional rapport is my greatest strength. I am as human as you are and make sure to demonstrate that in session. I often see parts of my own self in others that I work with. I was previously a high school teacher for 14 years before becoming a counselor. And, I’m still a teacher in this role as well. Sessions are geared towards giving you time to express yourself while assigning you “homework” in the form of development of skills to help manage your symptoms. I also throw in some humor and some cordial conversation to help with the development of professional rapport. I specialize in trauma-based therapy and have experience working with individuals who are diagnosed with depression, anxiety, grief, and some personality disorders. I provide a multi-cultural perspective to treatment and adjust treatment related to people’s cultural background. I also provide spiritual direction, which includes traditional forms of faith as well as alternative sources. I understand the courage it takes to come to therapy. It can be nerve racking when coming to your first session. As someone who has been through counseling myself, I respect the courage it takes to take that first step. Whether it’s me or another professional, I hope you are able to get the help you need.

Hi! Thank you so much for your interest in my practice! Let me tell you a little bit about me. I am a native of Youngstown, OH and currently reside in Columbus, OH. I hold a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice both from Youngstown State University. I love spending time outdoors, hikes are my go-to activity to clear my head. Not a day goes by that I don’t cook something, I was raised in a kitchen so it’s like second nature to me. I’m in my safe place when spending time with my son, he’s such a bright light. I’m always on the hunt for a really good movie that makes me think and reading is my calming practice. I am an EMDR Therapist trained through an EMDRIA-Approved Program and is licensed in the state of Ohio as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor under the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage and Family Therapist Board. I have over 16 years of direct care experience working with adults, adolescents, small children, family units. couples and first responders. Prior to my role as an EAP counselor I served as Associate Director for a local charter school, Counselor Supervisor in residential treatment for adjudicated youth, Program Manager for maternal-child health fatherhood initiatives, and provided individual counseling, couples counseling and intensive family therapy for several years. In my work I emphasize the importance of being trauma-informed and understanding multi-cultural competence in clinical service.

I’m a business owner, a single mom, and a foster and adoptive parent. I understand what it’s like to juggle multiple roles, carry constant responsibility, and still want to show up well for the people who matter most. One thing I say often is “work on yourself first.” It’s one of the few things we actually have control over, but it’s also the thing we tend to put off. We’re busy, we’re juggling everything, and before we know it, we’re stuck in patterns that feel frustrating and hard to break. No judgment here. I get it. I’ve been working with individuals and families as a therapist since 2018, with a background in healthcare prior to that, and I’ve spent my career serving the Fort Worth community I grew up in. I take a solution-focused, strengths-based approach, which means we’ll focus on what’s already working, build on your strengths, and create practical steps that actually move things forward.

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs. Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
