Hi, I’m Joe. I’ve worked in the mental health field for 27 years across substance use treatment, outpatient care, and hospital settings. I’ve supported individuals and families through crisis, transition, and long-term growth. I work well with young adults, adults, and families who are navigating stress, trauma, anxiety, depression, substance use, or major life changes. I also have extensive experience working with men who may struggle to express emotions directly and instead feel stuck in withdrawal, irritability, or self-doubt. As a veteran, I understand the mindset and pressures that can come with military life. Across all of my work, I aim to provide a grounded, steady presence where honesty, insight, and meaningful change can take place.

Hi! I'm Jen Tucker, a licensed mental health counselor who is passionate about serving others. I'm a military veteran and a military spouse. I'm also a wife, mom, and grandmother. I've been through a lot in my life. Most of you have too. After all, you find yourself here looking for something. It is my firm belief that each and every one of us has tremendous potential. We all have unique talents and skills, honed and sharpened through our life experiences. These experiences, while crucial to shaping us, can also leave us hurt, confused, numb, or insecure. It is paramount that we stop along our journey to take stock, address our needs, heal, and refocus. Sometimes, we realize we may benefit from having extra support or guidance through these moments. That is where therapy can help. Throughout my counseling career, I have had the privilege of being able to walk beside clients as they process the past, learn to be comfortable in the present, and get excited for the future. I am certified in trauma and treat clients with a wide range of concerns. Whether you feel ready to dive into therapy, or you are just contemplating the idea, I'd love to hear from you. I am currently accepting video clients for individual therapy. If you aren't ready to make contact, I have some resources available for self-reflection. Check out my blog at NotWavingButDrowning.org or my TikTok @MHMinute, where you'll find videos on a variety of mental health topics.

Please make note that I am only seeing clients part-time, primarily MWFS mornings and 1-2 evenings a week. I am unable to provide care to those in crisis due to my limited availability outside of scheduled sessions. I ask that you please complete the intake paperwork prior to our first session so that I may accurately assess whether I can effectively meet your needs. Should I determine from your intake paperwork that your needs fall outside of my current scope of practice, I will gladly assist you in the referral process. I have been providing outpatient therapy to individuals, couples, and families since 2019; prior to that, I worked as an intensive in-home counselor and ABA therapist for ten years while I obtained my master's degree and completed my residency. As much as I enjoy seeing my clients in person, I have strengthened my ability to provide therapy virtually, applying various resources and maintaining a strong rapport through my non-judgmental and open-minded approach. I have an extensive background in working with people who have a history of trauma as well as those struggling with grief. I have a strong cognitive behavioral background, but also employ facets of ACT, mindfulness, reality, developmental psychology, solution-focused, grief, and family systems approaches as appropriate to meet the needs of my clients. I strive to understand your unique worldview and adapt my approach to best address your particular circumstances. I absolutely love the work that I do; empowering my clients to achieve wellness and balance in their lives fulfills me in a way no other career path could. I am just as comfortable having a relaxed conversation about your issues and concerns as I am reviewing psycho-educational materials and assigning homework, if that's what you prefer.

My private practice is dedicated to supporting professional adults in Virginia who value a thoughtful, private, and personalized approach to counseling. I understand that even highly capable and successful individuals can experience periods of stress, transition, uncertainty, or simply feel that something in life needs greater attention and balance. My style is warm, compassionate, and thorough. I take the time to understand you as a whole person—your experiences, responsibilities, relationships, and goals. Our work together is highly individualized, integrating a holistic approach with a concierge-level counseling experience tailored to your unique needs. My journey in the mental health field has been shaped by diverse professional and cultural experiences, including my own time in Corporate America and living and working overseas. These experiences have given me a meaningful understanding of the unique demands professional adults may face while balancing career, relationships, family responsibilities, life transitions, and personal well-being. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of working in respected clinical and academic settings, including Yale-NUS College in Singapore, HCA Parham Doctors’ Hospital, WellSpan Philhaven Hospital, and White Mountain Apache Tribal Regional Behavioral Health Services in Arizona. These experiences allow me to bring a thoughtful, culturally informed, and individualized perspective to my work. I support clients experiencing anxiety, depression, grief and loss, eating-related concerns, and relationship or interpersonal challenges. Together, we will develop a personalized approach that reflects your needs, goals, and pace—without pressure or judgment. I currently offer in-person and Telehealth appointments with convenient self-scheduling. If you are seeking couples counseling, please contact the office before scheduling your first appointment. Hello! My name is Jessica and I have been working in the human services and mental health field since 2013, concentrating on therapy for the previous 3 years. My frameworks for therapy are strengths based and solution focused, with an emphasis on improving confidence, self-worth, and self-esteem for all. I believe in the power of humor, community, and finding a way to be a little more kind to ourselves each day. Previous clients have stated that my therapeutic approach was compassionate with a warm directness when needed. I received my Bachelor’s from the University of Denver, and during my time there worked in resource advocacy for low income women and also led a self-esteem building group for teenage girls. Earning my degree in Gender Studies laid a foundation for viewing the world through a lens of social justice, structural inequality, and intersectionality. In 2018 I graduated with a Masters in Social Work from VCU. My work since that time has included services for people experiencing homelessness in the Richmond area, hospital discharge coordination, and emergency room psychiatric assessments and crisis intervention for inpatient hospital admission. When not working, I can be found spending time with my two senior pets, growing hot peppers in the backyard, and enjoying a good book.

As a neurodivergent Black woman living with a chronic illness and mother of three adult children, two of whom identify with the LGBTQ+ commmunity, I am always interested in the deeper question people carry about their lives. Many of the individuals I work with are thoughtful, capable people who have spent years showing up for others, meeting expectations, and doing what seemed like the responsible thing to do. At some point, though, many begin to notice a quiet sense that something no longer fits. My work centers around helping people slow down enough to understand what is actually happening beneath that feeling. Together we look at the patterns, experiences, and internal narratives that shape how you see yourself and the choices available to you. From that place, people often begin to rediscover a clearer sense of who they are and what direction their lives might take moving forward. I am especially drawn to working with adults navigating identity shifts, relationship transitions, and moments in life where the path forward is no longer obvious.

I'm looking to partner with you to merge our strengths in order to discern which tools will be most effective in your journey. I have been working with children and their families my entire career. Since 2010, I have worked with children and their families as an intensive in-home counselor, a counselor and supervisor for therapeutic day treatment in the schools, an outpatient therapist and a residential treatment therapist. My Master of Social Work came from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2013. In addition, I have trained others in the ASSIST Living Works Suicide Prevention program in order to break down the avoidance of conversation surrounding suicide. Prior to becoming a therapist, I graduated from Duke Divinity School with a Master of Religious Education, Baptist Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity and worked in the church as a minister. While my worldview is Christian and I hope everyone can have a spiritual journey, I am respectful of various views. I look forward to walking with you as you move toward a more meaningful life.

With over 15 years of experience in the mental health field, I am passionate about supporting adults and couples as they navigate life’s transitions and pursue meaningful growth. Whether you are a college student or recent graduate adjusting to a new season of life, an individual facing anxiety or depression, or a couple preparing for marriage or working to strengthen your relationship, I strive to provide guidance that feels both supportive and practical. My Christian faith shapes my personal values; however, I work with people from all backgrounds and beliefs. Faith-based perspectives are incorporated into counseling only if a client specifically desires it. My goal is to create a safe, welcoming space where you feel heard, understood, and supported. Life transitions—whether expected or unexpected—can feel overwhelming, but you don’t have to navigate them alone. Together, we can explore the challenges you are facing and work toward the emotional and personal goals that matter most to you. I have experience working with adults experiencing life changes, including college and post-college transitions, relationship challenges, marriage and premarital preparation, and parenting. I also support individuals navigating anxiety, depression, and stress that often accompany these seasons of change. My background as a behavioral specialist in community mental health allows me to effectively support adults diagnosed with ADHD or autism spectrum disorder, as well as parents raising children with these diagnoses. In my work with couples, I draw from my experience as a trained Prepare/Enrich facilitator to help partners strengthen communication, navigate conflict, and build healthier, more connected relationships. When working with individuals, I primarily use a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) approach to address concerns such as anxiety, depression, and life transitions. My focus is on equipping you with practical tools and strategies so you can move forward with greater clarity, confidence, and resilience.

I’m a therapist who works with teens (13–17) and adults (18+) who are feeling overwhelmed, stuck in their heads, or just tired of holding everything together on their own. A lot of the people I work with look like they’re doing “fine” on the outside, but inside they’re dealing with anxiety, stress, low mood, or feeling like they’re falling behind in school, work, relationships, or life in general. In therapy, I offer a space where you don’t have to filter yourself or pretend you’re okay. Together, we focus on making sense of what you’re feeling, finding practical ways to cope, and helping you feel more grounded and in control of your day-to-day life. The goal is simple: to help you feel more like yourself again, with tools that actually fit your real life.

Hi- I’m Heather! I’m a licensed clinical social worker offering telehealth therapy in the state of Virginia. One of my greatest professional passions is introducing clients to EMDR therapy! I am an EMDR trained therapist working toward obtaining EMDR certification and am actively accepting new clients who are interested in exploring EMDR.
If you’ve tried talk therapy before and found that you’ve hit a wall, you’re not alone. Talk therapy may help us gain new insights into our patterns of behavior or relationship dynamics, but we often still have trouble changing the way we respond to particular triggers. Despite years of talk therapy, many of us find that there is still an unbridgeable gap between what our rational thinking brain knows and our felt sense of truth.

Do you cognitively believe that you are not a bad/unworthy/unloved person but deep in your body you cannot shake the sense that these core beliefs are true? EMDR can help resolve this disconnect.

Talk therapy work is done in the left hemisphere of the brain (this is the part of the brain where logical, rational thought occurs). But trauma is stored in the RIGHT hemisphere of the brain and the limbic system. Language does not easily address memories or beliefs stored in this part of the body and you may stay stuck living with maladaptive core beliefs and reliving traumatic memories until you can incorporate your RIGHT side of your brain in therapy. EMDR is one way of doing this. EMDR operates under the theory that the brain has a natural system in place to move toward adaptive resolution. Trauma blocks this system preventing us from fully processing our memories. EMDR reactivates this system, allowing our brain to fully integrate trauma so we can be free to live life on our own terms.

Are you fighting anxiety, depression, profound life transitions like grief and loss, career shifts, addiction, or a newly diagnosed chronic/autoimmune medical condition? Hi, I'm Raisa, an LCSW and VCU graduate specializing in anxiety, depressive disorders, and the mental impact of medical trauma. Having survived trauma in early life and personally navigating an autoimmune condition requiring chemically and biologically invasive treatments as an adult; I hold a deep, non-judgmental understanding of the profound toll chronic illness takes on your life and identity. I value the power of resilience and adaptation in humans. This lived experience equips me to help you process medical trauma holistically. I provide warm, humanistic, virtual-only therapy tailored entirely to your unique story. As a South Asian person of color, I am verbally fluent in my native language, Bangla/Bengali, as well as Hindi, and some knowledge of Urdu. This background gives me deep insight into the unique cultural intersections that Asians can face in the Western world. Additionally, my professional background includes over 4.5 years of working in a jail, heavily highlighting my crisis intervention and suicidal/homicidal risk assessment skills while working directly with substance use and personality disorders. By combining Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and Dr. Kabat-Zinn's mindfulness models (MBSR/MBCT), we will unpack your experiences in partnership. My clinical approach prioritizes a strongly holistic treatment plan across all 4 Bio-Psycho-Social-Spiritual domains of life, adapted to your diagnoses. If desired, this is an opportunity to hone your spiritual practice and discipline—intentionally refining, practicing, and sharpening your daily habits to connect with something larger than yourself. Together, we'll meet your needs, wants, and goals, by building practical tools to reclaim your peace, regain control, and thrive. With over a decade of experience in behavioral health, recovery support, education, and community advocacy, I bring an integrative and trauma-informed approach to therapy that honors the complexity of each person’s story. My clinical work focuses on helping individuals navigate complex trauma, substance use disorders, co-occurring mental health concerns, attachment wounds, emotional dysregulation, and major life transitions with compassion, collaboration, and practical tools for healing. My clinical background includes work in outpatient therapy, homeless services, crisis stabilization, justice-involved recovery programming, and family mental health navigation. I have worked extensively with individuals impacted by chronic trauma, homelessness, incarceration, grief, relationship instability, and systemic barriers to care. Across these settings, I prioritize creating a therapeutic relationship grounded in safety, authenticity, empowerment, and nonjudgment. In addition to traditional psychotherapy, I incorporate integrative mental health perspectives that recognize the connection between mind, body, nervous system functioning, and overall wellness. Through advanced training in integrative mental health, Food as Medicine, nutrition and mental health, CBT, Emotional Freedom Techniques, ACT, Brainspotting, IFS-informed approaches, and trauma treatment, I help clients explore how factors such as sleep, nutrition, stress, nervous system regulation, and lifestyle patterns can influence emotional well-being. I believe healing is most sustainable when we address both psychological and physiological contributors to distress. My therapeutic style is relational, collaborative, and adaptable to the individual needs of each client. I draw from evidence-based modalities, mindfulness-based interventions,, somatic and nervous system-informed approaches, and trauma-focused care. Whether clients are seeking support for trauma recovery, substance use, anxiety, depression, burnout, emotional overwhelm, or personal growth, I strive to create a space where they feel seen, supported, and capable of meaningful change.

Are you a woman facing big decisions? Navigating relationship challenges, family dynamics, parenting difficulties, career pivots? My background shapes how I approach therapy with clients facing such women's issues, which includes years as a licensed mental health counselor, but also as serving in senior leadership within higher education, supporting clients as a transformational coach, and balancing parenting along the way. This mix (and juggling act) gives me a practical understanding of how emotional wellbeing is often shaped by work, caregiving, relationships, and major life responsibilities. Many of the woman I work with are thoughtful, capable, and carrying more than others realize. They often appear highly functional on the outside while privately feeling overwhelmed, depleted, uncertain, or disconnected from themselves. I help clients slow things down enough to understand what is happening beneath the surface, identify what needs attention, and move forward in ways that feel grounded and realistic. I am licensed in Washington, Virginia, and Rhode Island, am a nationally certified counselor, and hold a doctorate in adult and higher education. While my colleagues may call me Dr. T, in counseling I'm just Melanie. I'm here to support you, help you find clarity and calm, offer guidance, levity, and a safe space for tears, perimenopausal rage, or a well placed curse word. Together, we find solutions to the barriers keeping you from your next chapter.

I'm a social worker by trade with over 25 years of experience in a lot of different areas. I have a breadth of experience that allows me to be very flexible so I can move where the person I am working with is at. I like to make people comfortable first. I know therapy is challenging and I recognize that it can be hard to open up to a stranger about things. Professionally I have a many years working with veterans/military, people who had a TBI, mental health, substance abuse, and more. I provide a very open and non-judgmental space, and am here to listen. I want someone to feel heard and seen, and to know that I am here for them, and here to help them.

Hi, I’m Kimberly, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker passionate about helping adults navigate anxiety, burnout, grief, life transitions, and the stress that can leave you feeling stuck or disconnected from yourself. I believe therapy should feel like a conversation with someone who truly listens while also helping you build practical skills that create lasting change. Frequently asked questions

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in Virginia. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Virginia from Norfolk to Roanoke! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Virginia.

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need.

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs. Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
