Katie Shadrick
My approach to helping clients is to work with them where they are currently at in order to work on bettering their lives through learning new coping skills and understanding why they have been struggling with their issues. I have been working with serious and persistent mental illness clients for 15+ years and have experience helping clients with many different issues. It is possible to develop more effective coping skills no matter where you are in life. Everyone struggles from time to time due to different causes; mental illness, trauma, grief, chronic illness, relationship issues, women's issues, family conflict, self-esteem, etc. I am ready and prepared to work with you in order to help you achieve the life you want.
First session
Clients can expect their first session with me to be me focusing on developing a therapeutic alliance with them by using a client-centered approach in order to determine what they are currently experiencing in their life in order for me to determine how I can best assist them in order for the to be able to move forward and have the life that they have always wanted.
Strengths
My approach is to meet clients where they are at, I will often sit back and allow the client to direct the session with my main priority being that we are addressing what the client feels is most important. But I will challenge clients at times as well, more so after we have developed a rapport with each other.
Ideal clients
Clients experiencing grief and loss, trauma/PTSD, anxiety, depression, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and self-esteem issues. Clients needing assistance with working on stress management/distress tolerance issues, relationship concerns/interpersonal effectiveness issues, struggles with communication, and trauma related concerns. Also, clients that struggle with chronic illness symptoms and those that are open to nutritional/natural options to assist with managing their mental health symptoms/mental illness.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I assist clients with learning about how their thoughts affect their feelings which affects their behaviors and how being aware of that can help them be better able to cope with whatever issues/concerns that they are having in their life.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
I assist clients with learning mindfulness skills, emotion regulation skills, distress tolerance skills, and interpersonal effectiveness skills. The more often clients are able to practice these skills, the more often they are able to cope with their life struggles.
Grief Therapy
Working with clients on how to cope with their grief and loss symptoms in order for them to be able to continue learning their lives to the best of their ability.
Narrative
Narrative therapy allows the client to direct what is talked about in therapy based on their experiences in life.
