I am licensed in Minnesota with more than 12 years of professional work experience. I have always believed in the potential of each person as an individual and my goal as a therapist is to help each person find new ways to approach the obstacles that keep them from achieving their full potential and being secure and content in who they are. I use Dialectical Behavior Therapy or DBT, Buddhist Concepts like Present Moment Living and Mindfulness, and Behavioral Activation to assist people in areas that include Depression, Anxiety, Addiction, Trauma, Family Dynamics, and Chronic Pain and Aging. Personally, I love dogs, nature, animals, and doing crafts like knitting and crocheting. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs. It takes courage to seek out a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards change. I always work from a strength based approach. You are the author of you own life and we will work together to write the next chapter. I have been in this business of helping people find their path and heal for over 40 years. If you are looking for a mature therapist who understands your needs and concerns we will work together easily. My degree is in Clinical Social Work but my credentials are a life process of experiencing many challenges and losses and striving to learn and grow from all of them, everyday, all the time. I have a wicked sense of humor and a strong sense of the irony and quirkiness of life. I take my clients very seriously, but I don't take myself too seriously and laughing can sometimes be the best medicine.

I have been a professional counselor for 18 years. Counseling is my second career, after working for twenty years in business management. My background and training include experience with addiction, trauma, depression, anxiety & chronic pain . I consider myself to be warm, empathetic, articulate and honest. My counseling style involves a patient-centered approach (you are the focus), along with values clarification and thought clarification (cognitive-behavioral) elements. I believe every successful client/counselor relationship begins by developing a sense of safety and trust for the client. Given the state of the world these days, many people are struggling emotionally. People come to therapy in hopes of finding a possible solution to problems and to feel better. It is my job to help you meet those needs. In general, I often work with clients who may have issues with personal addiction, family members with addiction, or individual issues with anxiety and/or depression. Together, we will identify your challenges and your goals - where your life is now, and where you would like to to be in the future. While I may use my experience and expertise to generate possible ideas and actions to take, the ultimate direction of help rests with you, the client.

Hi! I’m Janie, an LICSW who is fluent in both English and Hmong. With over eight years of clinical experience across community-based practice, crisis intervention, and outpatient clinical settings, I bring both depth and range to the work I do with clients. My work is especially meaningful with immigrant and refugee populations, where I draw on my cultural background, language access, and clinical training to meet clients where they truly are. My experience spans some of the most complex and high-stakes corners of clinical practice, which means I don’t shy away from hard things. Whether you’re navigating trauma, life transitions, family dynamics, or the particular weight of carrying two cultures at once, I offer a space that is grounded, thoughtful, and deeply human. At the same time, the best description of me is, I am a chameleon. I adapt myself as a clinician to your needs, in order to truly meet you where you are at. Therapy with me is a safe space for you to explore and dive into the stress that is affecting you, and my goal is to help create the mold you need for the goals you have. I believe that healing is a journey towards serenity — not perfection, not a fixed endpoint or destination, but a more intentional, peaceful relationship with your own life. If you are ready to start your healing journey, I am willing to help be your navigator.

My first career includes 17 years of retail management. I worked in multiple divisions, environments, and roles within the retail management industry. Most of my experience was in big-box retail environments or corporate offices, so I understand the expectations and stressors of P&L management, marketing, staff performance/recruitment/training & development, shrinkage, O.S.H.A. compliance, and merchandising. I transitioned from the retail management industry to the human services industry in March 2010 after earning my Master’s degree in Human Services, with a specialty in Mental Health Counseling. I recently obtained a doctoral degree in Human and Social Services. This information is pertinent for adults who need assistance to cope with work-life balance, corporate industry standards, stressful work environments, conflict management with co-workers, and work performance due to compassion fatigue or inappropriate time management.

Meet Mike Arieta, LICSW Hello and welcome. I’m Mike Arieta, a licensed clinical social worker with nearly three decades of experience supporting individuals, couples, families, and teens through life’s most complex challenges. Since 1995, I’ve worked across diverse settings—from foster care and homelessness to adoption and refugee support—and have been practicing clinically since 2011. My therapeutic approach is body-based and trauma-informed. I believe our bodies often speak before our minds can make sense of what we’re feeling. This philosophy guides my work with clients navigating trauma, PTSD, and transitions that require deep emotional resilience. I integrate movement-based and somatic strategies to help clients reconnect with themselves and their communities. Currently, I’m completing my Doctor of Social Work degree at Tulane University, where my research focuses on trauma recovery and evidence-informed practices that foster healing. I also hold advanced training in adoption competence and provide support to foster youth, adoptive families, and caregivers navigating complex systems. Therapy, for me, is a collaborative journey. I’m honored to walk alongside my clients as they reclaim their stories, build strength, and move toward meaningful change. Thank you for taking the time to learn more about my work—I look forward to connecting with you.

I believe that every person possesses the inner strength and resources needed to find happiness and healing. As a transgender woman, I understand both the internal and external forces that can stir self-doubt, amplify fear, and lead to deep feelings of loneliness and uncertainty. I also know—through both personal and professional experience—that self-acceptance and joy are not only possible, but also within reach. Science consistently shows that those who seek support often find meaningful relief and lasting change. I bring to my practice a mindfulness-based approach grounded in compassion, presence, and affirmation. My work is especially focused on serving the LGBTQAI+ community, though I warmly welcome anyone seeking an empathic, nonjudgmental partner in their journey toward a more fulfilling life. In addition to my clinical work, I have served as an adjunct and visiting professor at Washington University in St. Louis, and as professor and dean of the Hazelden Betty Ford Graduate School of Addiction Studies. My academic and clinical experiences have always been deeply interconnected, and both continue to inform my commitment to human dignity, resilience, and transformation.

As a therapist dually licensed in counseling and substance use treatment, I believe every person carries unique strengths, stories, and untapped potential. My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and tailored to your needs, drawing from evidence-based modalities such as CBT, EMDR, DBT, IFS, ACT, Family Systems, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and practical life-skills development. I’m passionate about helping clients understand how early experiences and relationships shape the way they see themselves, navigate challenges, and connect with others—and I’m continually inspired by the powerful ways therapy, supported by neuroscience, can help the brain and body heal. Outside the therapy room, I find joy in traveling, lifelong learning, reading, and cherishing time with my friends and family. I’m also deeply connected to the mind–body relationship and believe that true healing honors both. Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs. Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
