I’m Jessica, and I’m so glad you are here. I am a Christian but work with people of any faith or none at all. I work with teens, young adults, women, and couples- whether you are navigating trauma, childhood wounds, harmful or unhelpful relationship patterns, toxic workplaces, church hurt (without having to lose your faith), parenting, and betrayal/infidelity. I'm passionate about working with people who are ready to understand their patterns, do the hard work of growth, and move toward healing. We’re shaped by both our wounding and our wiring. Because of that, I use a trauma-informed AND attachment-based approach to help you understand where your patterns come from and create meaningful change through EMDR, inner child work, IFS, and memory reconsolidation, integrating your spirituality if you would like. With couples, I draw from Gottman-informed methods to rebuild connection and intimacy.

I'm Carmela Byus, LPCC-S, LICDC, a licensed mental health and substance use clinician who has been helping individuals navigate life's challenges since 2012. I believe meaningful change begins with feeling heard, understood, and supported. Every person has a unique story, and healing is not a one-size-fits-all journey. My approach is compassionate, person-centered, holistic, and trauma-informed. I recognize that our experiences, relationships, family dynamics, and attachment patterns can shape how we see ourselves, manage emotions, and connect with others. I work with individuals navigating trauma and PTSD, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, substance use concerns, low self-worth, relational difficulties, and life transitions. I am especially passionate about helping individuals understand how past experiences, attachment wounds, and learned patterns may influence their emotional well-being and relationships today. My goal is to create a safe, welcoming, and nonjudgmental environment where you can explore challenges, recognize your strengths, develop healthier coping strategies, and reconnect with your sense of identity and purpose. In my practice as a licensed therapist, I support folks moving through burnout, anxiety, and big life transitions within a welcoming, neuroaffirming space. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Social Work from Bowling Green State University and my Master of Social Work from the University of Toledo. I have been working with individuals and communities since 1998 and became independently licensed in 2011. I am a Licensed Independent Social Worker with Supervisory Designation. Throughout my career, I have supported individuals across the lifespan, including adolescents, adults, and older adults. My experience includes working with individuals, couples, and families, particularly people who are marginalized, underserved, unhoused, or living with serious and persistent mental illness and co-occurring conditions. Much of my clinical work has centered on individuals impacted by significant trauma, including complex and generational trauma. I recognize that mental health concerns rarely exist in isolation. Trauma, anxiety, depression, ADHD, relationship difficulties, identity exploration, and other life stressors can intersect in complex ways. I am also interested in helping clients explore patterns in their relationships with food, body image, social media, technology, and other aspects of daily life that may affect emotional well-being, self-esteem, and connection with others. My therapeutic approach is grounded in humanistic and relational principles, influenced by Carl Rogers and Virginia Satir. I integrate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution-Focused Therapy, and Trauma-Informed Care, adapting these approaches to each client's individual experiences, strengths, needs, and goals.

Hi, I’m Brittany, an LISW in Ohio, wife, and mom of three with a heart for supporting women through the many seasons and transitions of life. I’m especially passionate about women’s and maternal mental health and creating a space where women feel seen, heard, and genuinely supported. I’m the founder of Selah Maternal Wellness, a virtual private practice where I work with women navigating anxiety, stress, overwhelm, life transitions, relationships, identity, pregnancy, postpartum, motherhood, and the everyday challenges that come with carrying so many roles. While maternal mental health holds a special place in my heart, my work is not limited to motherhood. I welcome women in all stages of life who are looking for a space to slow down, reconnect with themselves, build on their strengths, and create meaningful change. My approach is warm, collaborative, strengths-based, and focused on meeting you where you are. I also offer Christian counseling and faith-based therapy for women who would like to incorporate their faith into their healing journey, while always honoring each client’s individual beliefs and preferences. The name Selah reflects much of what I hope to offer through this work—a moment to pause, reflect, breathe, and reconnect. As women, we can spend so much time caring for everyone and everything around us that we forget we need care, too! Beyond individual therapy, I offer local workshops and group sessions to help women and moms connect, learn, and build supportive community. I’m also currently working toward my PMH-C certification to deepen my ability to support women throughout pregnancy, postpartum, and beyond. Whether through individual therapy, faith-based support, workshops, or groups, my hope is for Selah to be a place where women can pause, feel supported, reconnect with who they are, and know they don’t have to navigate life alone.

I grew up in the Cleveland area and then came to Michigan where I completed my Bachelor's degree at Hope College where I studied social work. While in school I completed a field placement working as a probation officer and spent time in Mental Health and Sobriety Treatment Court. After graduation, my now husband and I moved back to Cleveland where I completed my Masters in Social Work with a specialization in Health Studies at Case Western Reserve University. While in school I completed internships with the Cleveland Clinic in their Adolescent Psychiatric Unit as well as an interdisciplinary internship at Care Alliance. Following graduation, I worked in admissions for psychiatric and detox services for six years. I then wanted to expand my skill set and pursued a position providing therapy to health care employees as an EAP counselor at a local hospital system. I found that I really love the opportunity to get to know my clients and to walk alongside them on their journey.

# Welcome to The Unraveling Room. For more than 25 years, I have worked in community mental health, crisis intervention, and hospital-based psychiatric practice. I've learned something along the way: **People are complicated.** I'm comfortable there. Maybe your story includes trauma, bipolar disorder, depression, personality disorders, chronic pain, complex medical conditions, or functional seizures (PNES). Maybe you've collected diagnoses, medications, specialists, and years of therapy—and still feel that no one quite understands the whole story. **You are not a diagnosis.** And you are not a problem waiting for the right therapeutic technique. You are a story. I don't fear your anger. Your intensity. Your contradictions. Your messy history. Or the part of your story you've been afraid to say out loud. **Bring it.** I am an active therapist. I listen deeply, but I also ask questions. I notice patterns. I make connections. I challenge when I believe it matters. We may laugh. We may work on practical skills. And sometimes we will sit together with something neither of us can fix. Medication can be an important tool. Medical care matters. When appropriate, I will collaborate with your psychiatric or medical providers. But **the relationship matters.** Twenty-five years of experience cannot replace what happens between two people in a therapy room. And I am not the therapist for everyone. If you want someone to mostly listen, I may not be your therapist. But if you want someone willing to enter the labyrinth with you—to ask difficult questions, follow unexpected turns, and stay when things get uncomfortable—we might fit. Our lives are patterns woven from countless threads. Some we chose. Some were handed to us. Some held us together. Some became knots. **We don't unravel you.** We unravel the pattern. **Bring your story. Bring the threads.** Let's see where they lead.

I understand that starting therapy can be scary! I work hard to build a safe, non-judgemental space for my client's to feel seen and supported. Through evidence based practice, I work with my clients to challenge and change unwanted thought patterns and behaviors, specifically focusing on anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and body image disturbances. I'm a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor with a Supervisor designation (LPCC-S) in the state of Ohio and have worked in Outpatient private practice, school-based, Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) settings. Outside of therapy, I love being with my family and our rescue pittie, reading, hiking, and drinking lots of coffee. Thank you for taking the time to read my bio and consider me as your therapist, I hope we can work together towards making positive change.

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need.

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs. Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
