My name is Jeffrey, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Michigan, and a Licensed Social Worker and Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in Ohio. I have also been an ordained Lutheran pastor since 1989. My professional career began as an Associate Pastor in a Lutheran church in northwest Ohio, where I focused on youth ministry, Christian Education, and pastoral counseling. I entered Social Work in 1995 when I began work as a Family Worker in a residential facility for hard to place juvenile offenders, and then worked in a few outpatient counseling agencies providing mental health and substance use disorder services. I have experience working with people of all ages on general mental health issues, such as managing depression and anxiety, and have specialized in the areas of PTSD recovery and domestic violence and sexual abuse victims and offenders. Throughout my counseling career, I have maintained activity in ministry. I was trained in Clinical Pastoral Counseling and also have had training as a Spiritual Director. My counseling approach is generally non-directive, using a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing in a Solution Focused, Client Centered frame work. I can incorporate spirituality as much or as little as the client desires, from not referencing spirituality at all to fully engaging the spiritual dimension of life. As a caring, empathetic listener, people find it easy to talk with me and be open about what needs attention in their lives. I look forward to working with you!

Hi, I’m Ashley therapist, animal lover, creative soul, and lifelong daydreamer. I bring a warm and down-to-earth approach to my work, and I believe that connection, curiosity, and authenticity are at the heart of healing. When I’m not in session, you can usually find me lost in a good book especially fantasy, romantasy, or dark romance (I’m a proud BookTok girly). Some of my favorite reads have come straight from client recommendations. I always love hearing what’s on your bookshelf. I’m also a big fan of all things crafty. Paper crafting is my go-to especially junk journals and mini albums but I’ve dabbled in wreaths, t-shirts, and tumblers. My creativity also spills into my love of music, which spans from Sleep Token to George Strait to Eminem. I’m always up for discovering new bands or catching a local show. On slower days, I love wandering through antique stores and thrift shops. Most of my home is decorated with pieces that have a story either found secondhand or passed down through family. I find comfort in giving old things new life. Animals have always been a grounding force in my world. I’ve been riding horses since I was four, and my heart horse, Kirby, is my trail buddy and snack-sharing best friend (she’s a big fan of applesauce and cupcakes). My two dogs, Oliver and Dottie, are certified therapy dogs who’ve joined me in visits to hospices, hospitals, nursing homes, and children’s reading programs. Together, Kirby, Oliver, and Dottie inspired the name Free to Wander Counseling, a reflection of my belief that healing often begins when we allow ourselves to explore, play, and connect in gentle, open-hearted ways. Wherever you are on your journey, you are welcome here just as you are.

Hello, I am Mande. I have 20 years of experience in the mental health field. I love working with individuals helping them to meet their best version of themselves and their life. Do you ever feel alone, as if no one understands how challenging life can be? Does it feel like everyone else has it figured out? Is it confusing how they are managing life challenges? I would love to have the opportunity to help connect and express yourself. I find it helpful to look at life outside of social media and look at the reality of life and its challenges. There are many skills that are helpful in regulating your nervous system, challenging negative beliefs and increasing self-care.

I have been a therapist since 2000 and licensed since 2008. I work primarily with young to middle aged and older adults now. I also have worked extensively with children ages 7 and older. I will work with you to explore thoughts, feelings, and problems on a more internal and psychological level which I believe has a longer lasting impact while still clearing up the more overt behaviors. I use an eclectic style that includes a psychodymamic approach, cognitive-behavioral therapy, self-empowerment techniques, meditation and mindfulness. My sense of humor and relaxed, informal manner can help you feel safe and comfortable. I like to incorporate meditation, mindfulness, and positive visualization. With young to middle adults, we may address personal and career goals, job stress, and relationships, with older adults, transitioning from the workforce to retirement and managing grief and loss. If you are in the Cincinnati area, we do have the option of in-person/office based sessions, which we can discuss at the first session.

Hi, I’m Marie — a therapist who believes that change is always possible, no matter where you are in life. My goal is to help you feel better emotionally, think more clearly, and move toward a future that feels fulfilling and peaceful. In our sessions, we’ll work together to understand what’s been holding you back and find practical ways to move forward. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help you notice how your thoughts affect your emotions and actions—and teach you tools to shift negative thinking. I also use a solution-focused approach, which means we’ll focus on your strengths, celebrate what’s working, and create small, realistic steps that bring real progress. I often work with adults who are struggling with depression, anxiety, or major life changes—like adjusting after a loss, a new diagnosis, or changes that come with getting older. My approach is supportive and empowering. I want you to feel heard, encouraged, and equipped with the tools to handle life’s challenges with more confidence and hope. As an immigrant and a bilingual therapist speaking both English and French, I understand the importance of culture, identity, and belonging. This lived experience allows me to better connect with clients from diverse backgrounds and support them through challenges related to identity, adjustment, and navigating different cultural expectations. My background helps me approach therapy with openness, cultural sensitivity, and a deep belief in the resilience of the human spirit.

Hi. I am a Licensed Independent Social Worker in Ohio. I have worked extensively with adolescents and young adults who have had issues with trauma and loss in childhood. I also have much experience in working with depression, anxiety and loss. I have a special interest in working with anyone touched by adoption as I am an adoptee myself. It is very gratifying to see people of all ages overcome obstacles and to become the best version of themselves. I feel that one of my strengths is being able to put people at ease and being able to support them through the therapeutic process. Please understand that I do not do medication management.

Are you feeling tired, overwhelmed, or stretched too thin? Maybe you’ve been carrying too much for too long—showing up for others while putting your own needs aside. You might find yourself saying yes when you want to say no, or feeling pulled in different directions, unsure how to move forward. Perhaps you’re navigating difficult relationships, caregiving responsibilities, or a season of life that feels heavier than expected. You don’t have to do it alone. I offer a gentle, supportive space where you can slow down, breathe, and be yourself. Together, we’ll explore what’s weighing on you and reconnect with your strengths. With over 25 years of experience, I’ve worked with children, adolescents, and adults facing trauma, emotional dysregulation, chronic stress, self-harm, and adoption-related concerns. Today, I focus on helping adults build resilience, develop healthier coping strategies, and experience meaningful growth. I hold a Ph.D. in Social Welfare from Case Western Reserve University and am a Licensed Independent Social Worker with Supervisory designation in Ohio. I also teach full-time at Case Western Reserve University, staying closely connected to current research and evidence-based practices. I provide individual therapy and enjoy working with adults who are ready to understand themselves more deeply, shift old patterns, and move toward greater balance. Hello, I am a licensed psychologist that has been practicing for 15 years. I received my doctoral degree from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan and have worked in a variety of health care settings before deciding to build a virtual practice. I am passionate about helping people improve their health and well-being through changing behavior and better regulating emotions. Hey there! :) I'm a Licensed Independent Social Worker with Supervisory distinction (LISW-S) based in central Ohio. I earned my MSW from The Ohio State University and have spent the past decade doing what I love most—helping people heal, grow, and thrive. My journey began as a trauma specialist working with children in Treatment Foster Care and adoption in inner-city Columbus. At the same time, I supported children, young adults, and families in Worthington, Ohio, helping them find balance and connection in their daily lives. It was during this time that I discovered my passion for supporting parents—especially those navigating the emotional waves of infertility, anxiety, depression, self-esteem challenges, and the beautifully complex world of parenting. These experiences sparked a deep commitment to working with women to identify their strengths, overcome barriers, and step fully into their potential. I find so much joy in connecting with people from all walks of life, and I've had the privilege of working in urban, suburban, and rural communities. My current practice—and my roots—are in the beautiful Appalachian foothills of Ohio. Outside of the therapy room, I’m a proud animal lover, plant enthusiast, and people-person through and through. I believe in the power of humor, honesty, and human connection—and I’m here to walk alongside you, wherever you are in your journey.

Steven Johnston CPC LPCC-S has been a clinical counselor for over twenty years, with special training in the areas of Pastoral Counseling , having additonal experience in treating victims of Domestic Violence ; Child Sexual Abuse; Trauma, workplace issues and Marital counseling. A graduate from Ashland Theological Seminary in 1988. Because Mr. Johnston did not want to exclude religious commitment issues from the therapeutic setting, he chose to pursue his Counseling degree from Ashland Seminary after graduating with ministerial degree from the Foursquare Church of the Gospel’s, Life Bible College East. He has continued to extend his Clinical Pastoral Studies through membership and training in the American Association of Christian Counselors. To avoid excluding an aspect of life that has shown to be of central importance to nearly two-thirds of the US population, Mr. Johnston has sought to integrate spiritual issues from a Biblical point of view in a way compatible with Biblical doctrine and Pastoral Counseling. This integration as it applies to marital, family and individual issues has been found to promote inner healing as it supports the client’s own religious coping skills.

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need.

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs. Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
